He also received his Masters in Media Studies from the University of Jakarta. He is currently an Associate Professor at Universitas Padjadjaran Indonesia, Jakarta. From 2002 to 2013 he was the head of the Department of English Language and Linguistics at UGM. He has been a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, USA. His research interests include the poetics of translation and comparative literature. He is also a writer whose works have been translated into English, French, German, Spanish and Portuguese. His novels have received multiple awards across Asia including The Silver Award for World Best Fiction 2014 from the International Book Awards.
